Rock Climbing in the famous Gunks
ALL levels of experience welcome
Teton 2011 Training Program
Learn to Rock Climb, or advance your existing skills in the famous "Gunks", located in the Minnewaska State Park, Up State New York.
Fully insured, licensed, and accredited instructors will prepare you to scale the walls of the Shawangunk with full professional equipment.
Under highly qualified supervision you will learn to move on the rocks, climb and belay, and understand the required safety and back up procedures.
Insurance policy and AMGA certification of our guides available upon request.
Our Climbing Area: The Shawangunk Ridge - also called The Gunks:
Known
for its outdoor recreation, most notably as one of the major rock
climbing areas of North America. Also known for its biodiversity and
scenic character, the ridge has been designated by The Nature
Conservancy as a significant area for its conservation programs.
The
ridge is primarily underlain by Shawangunk Conglomerate, a hard,
silica-cemented conglomerate of white quartz pebbles and sandstone.
This is a step by step program: All levels are welcome, all gear is provided:
The guides are all highly experienced, professional climbing instructors, with great familiarity of the Gunks.
Meeting / Departure:
Departure Time: 8.00 am
Meeting: 3 pick-up locations in Manhattan: Union Square, UES & UWS
Return ca. 6.30 pm
Travel time: 1-1/2 hours each way
Cost: $169
Price Includes:
- FULL Day of climbing with experienced and certified guides at a 4 to 1 guiding ratio
- ALL necessary gear and equipment (ropes, helmets, harness, shoes)
- Transportation, park fee, and some snacks plus BEER ! for the way back...
For you to bring: backpack, lunch, sandwiches, picnic, 2 liters of water, liquids... and good spirits !!
